We are in the middle of a pandemic. And we want to continue to offer the best therapeutic guidance to our clients during this time. Many of you may have avoided offering online therapy- widely referred to as telemental health- but now you are taking the dive to be able to offer mental health interventions when in-person is not an option.
Who are we?
If you are a “regular” here at Online Therapy Institute, you know that we are two therapists on both sides of the pond. DeeAnna is in the US and Kate is in the UK. We’ve been teaching on the topic of Online Therapy for nearly 2 decades. At one point we jointly offered courses about online therapy but once our country’s regulations became vastly different, we decided to split our efforts. In general, DeeAnna teaches therapists in the US and Canada and Kate teaches therapists in the UK and Europe. That isn’t to say we don’t each have students from around the globe though.
To help mental health professionals gear up for offering services to existing and new clients via audio/video delivery, we offer a couple of introductory courses.
Bring yourself up to speed with a short course
DeeAnna’s course, Introduction to Online Therapy and Supervision is a course that meets the telemental health training requirements in the state of Georgia. The course offers a choice 3, 6 or 9 clock hours and is approved for continuing education. Most states accept CE for courses approved in another state making the course appropriate for practitioners across the US.
We will be posting relevant information on our Facebook page and in our Linkedin group. We also offer a Facebook group for students.
From the Archives
Ten years ago we wrote an Ethical Framework for the Use of Technology in Disaster Mental Health. Disasters happen. We were forward-thinking. This document is still relevant today even with sweeping changes in technology. Use the framework as yet another reference during the pandemic.
