Aisling Treanor is a final year counselling psychology doctoral student at University of Roehampton. Her final year research project is looking at the
Extent to which Relational Depth can be reached in email and text based online therapy and what factors facilitate or inhibit that experience?
I first became interested in digital technologies and how they can enhance healthcare when I worked as a researcher on Buddyapp, an online digital mood diary based on the premise of behavioral activation. Buddyapp allows clients to track and monitor their mood on a daily basis, set goals and share all of this information with their therapist.
My interest in Relational Depth came about after reading the book ‘working at relational depth’ by Mearns & Cooper. My interested was then intensified when Mick Cooper came to teach at the University in which I am currently studying so I decided that I would combine both these passions into one large research topic.
I am currently hoping to recruit at least 200 participants to take part in the study and I would be extremely grateful if you could forward the link below to any clients whom you are currently providing therapy to. The link includes the relational depth inventory and relational depth frequency scale as well as a short demographic questionnaire. This should take clients between 10-15 minutes to complete. The link also includes the participant information sheet and consent form. The inclusion criteria is as follows:
Being 18 or older
- Have had a minimum of 3 online therapy sessions
- Engaged in online therapy within the last year
- Online therapy must have been either email, text or instant messaging
Here is the link
All information received will be treated with the utmost respect and in a confidential manner. All questionnaire responses will be stored safely and securely on a password protected computer.
On completion of the questionnaire I am requesting any participant’s who would be willing to take part in a follow up interview get in touch with me via my email address which I have provided. I am seeking to interview between 6-10 participants which will take place via the same mode they receive therapy.
If you have any questions or concerns relating to the study then please do get in touch and I will be happy to answer them.
