We have been busy building our courses into a fresh, new learning platform powered by JigsawBox and we are so excited! Update: As of 2019 we have migrated to Pathwright as our learning platform, an even more robust and dynamic experience.
Why the change?
Frankly, we needed an e-learning platform that fit our learning and teaching style and gives the student a more individualized learning experience. Those of you who have taken courses at OTI/OCI know that many of our courses were not interactive. As is the case with much online professional development and continuing education learning, it was a case of reading the material and taking a test. While that process works, it has become the stale standard.
We did not want to move exclusively to live webinar-like classes because we understand people have busy schedules. So we have opted for something that fits our delivery style and maintains the self-paced component so many of you desire.
Our self-paced courses are now delivered to you as reading material, videos, audios, powerpoints but instead of multiple choice tests, we have incorporated written assignments and Forum assignments (as of 2020 we replaced our forum with our private Facebook group for students). That means instead of studying to pass the test, or scrolling through a pdf to find the answer, you will simply answer a question about the lesson or the reading material that demonstrates you understand the concepts presented. For instance, a typical question might be, “How might you incorporate these points into your online therapy or coach practice?”
By asking questions like this, we have the opportunity to deliver feedback that is catered to your particular learning need. We will typically respond to your answer within a week but in the meantime, you are not held back from continuing through the course. If there is a particular assignment that leaves unanswered questions, we can continue to send feedback to further assist you in gaining the specific knowledge you need. This style of teaching allows for individualized learning as we coach and consult with you along the way.
In addition, you can download any documents we add to the lesson and likewise, you can upload documents.
